Cable Modems
Modems send and transmit digital signals over the phone, the TV cable,
and high speed data lines such as ISDN. Most people use a Cable modem,
also known as Broadband.
The hardware may be supplied by your Internet Service Provider or Cable
company. Cable modems are also available at most retail computer stores.
The Cable company will activate your equipment by transmitting a signal
and verifying the address.
There are two plugs on the back of the Cable modem. The first connection
should be the coaxial for the cable. The other connection will be a CAT5
cable that plugs into your computer or network hub. In this photo, the
thin black wire connects to the power plug.
Windows will
detect the new network and notify you what it found.
