Using Your Connections
Dynamic
Host Control Protocol (DHCP) is a network function that enables
Windows to accept the IP address provided by the Cable router.
The IP address
is leased for a short time, usually 1 to 3 days, but the duration
can be specified by the Server. Most IP address numbers are leased, not
permanently assigned.
This strategy
offers you the flexibility to roam. You can join or leave this network.
If you take your laptop and go someplace else, then your IP address will
expire. That IP address can be leased to the next computer.
