Don't Go There
There was a
business theory called “Dot Com.” This strategy was based on tracking
information about the people who looked at the web pages. In the Dot Com
world, it wasn’t enough to wait for folks to fill out a survey or
request more information. Nope, these programmers decided that they had
the right to spy on the public. Without your permission or acceptance,
they download files on your computer to gather your name, your email,
and even your key strokes.
Music, gambling, and adult sites are notorious for spying on people.
These web sites are not free entertainment. Users pay for the site visit
by getting a tracking cookie. This Spyware runs its own program and
basically takes over your Internet connection and informs other people
about you. If you go to a lot of music or gaming sites, you will find
yourself competing with the spyware over who gets access to the
Internet.
What are the clues? You can be certain you have spyware if
1) Your volume of junk email (SPAM) increases dramatically
2) Your connection seems slower and slower
3) If you ever, ever, ever clicked on the ad banner that said,
“You may be a winner.”
