AutoFill  the Labels

Excel has a method for automatically filling in a series. For example, the months of the year is a common series that is used in a bazillion budget spreadsheets.

2. AutoFill the labels

Click on Cell A1—April—and hold your left mouse button as you slide over to B1—May. Release your mouse. You have selected a range of cells.

Look carefully at the bottom right hand corner of cell B1. Do you see a little black square? This is the AutoFill handle.

Move your cursor over the handle. When your cursor changes from a white plus sign to a thin black cross, hold your left mouse button down and drag your mouse to the right. Did Excel fill the series?.

3. Make the Labels Bold

Select Row 1 by clicking on the Row Heading (The number 1 to the left of Cell A1) Now, go  Home and click on B for Bold.

AutoFill Handle

AutoFill can complete any number of series if you give Excel enough information. For example, if you type in the dates for Monday, Wednesday and Friday, the AutoFill will calculate the dates for the next week. Try it!
