Level 2: Practice
Show/Hide
All word
processors are text based. Think of the old-fashioned IBM Electric
typewriters. Here is an example:
Try to drag and
drop your name to the bottom of the page. How far does it go? Now, place your
cursor at the end of the last word on the page and hit the Enter key
five or six times. Try to drag your last name to the bottom of the page.
Where did it drop, this time?
Look on the
Standard Tool bar for the
Show/Hide button. When you select
Show/Hide, Microsoft Word displays the formatting codes. Notice, each time
you hit the Enter key on the keyboard, you have a new blank line. When you are
working with Word, the text is anchored to a line, just like a
typewriter. If you want your name to be at the bottom of the page, you have
to enter enough blank lines to reach the bottom.
