Television and Computers
The
Comma Project integrates television—a
storyline rich in education and entertainment, and the Internet—a search
engine with no didactic synthesis. This new medium offers an interactive story that enables users to choose when to view
content and how to find more information.
Just as the
Comma Method is invigorating the training field - Comma Productions is
developing innovative educational TV for the future. By blending
together science, technology, computer skills and a large dose of fun;
our "Reach for the Stars" series will captivate youth and encourage
interest in mathematics and science.
Educational Opportunities
Television
still commands students’ time. The majority of young women and men
(33.5% of girls and 31.6% of boys) report that they watch 1-3 hours of
television per day. A smaller percentage (17.8% of girls and 19.6% of
boys) watches television five or more hours per day. [Miller,
Schweingruber & Brandenburg] That same study indicated that the majority
of students who had a computer at home used it only 30 to 60
minutes per day (36% of girls and 38% of boys). [emphasis added].
Digital TV offers an unprecedented opportunity for
educators to add rich content that enhances math, science, and
technology.
