The Computer
The hard drive
was named the C: drive because the A: and B: floppy drives were invented
first. The small black floppies fit into the A: drive. The big 5"
floppies slid into the B: drive.
The hard drive
is hard metal, instead of magnetized film like a floppy disk. It
has several platters spinning at 7200 rpm (or faster!) and an actuator
arm that reads the top and bottom of each disk.
As of this
writing, a typical hard drive offers 225 gigabytes (GB) for the
operating system (Windows Vista), productivity software
Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat and Photoshop, etc.), music, and the
data.
