Treasure or Trash?

Worse, each program is part of the Windows Registry. The registry is a database of all the programs on the computer and how they interact. When a game is just thrown in the trash, the registry isn’t updated. Windows, according to the registry, thinks it is still there.

A program called Regedit.exe opens the Registry editor. There are five keys, or containers, in the registry. This collection is sometimes called the “Hives.”

When you change something with the Control Panel, you are usually altering H_Key Local Machine. The Control Panel Applets provide a simple set of menus for configuring the machine. When you click OK to finish one of these Control Panel programs, the values are saved in the Registry.

DO NOT wander around the Registry unsupervised or uninformed. Mistakes made in the Registry can render your computer completely useless.
