Clean Machine Let’s turn our attention to getting the best quality from the printer. The first rule of thumb is “Keep it Clean." Check the ink levels and replace them often. Running a Bubble Jet printer without ink can damage the print head. A bad print head only prints part of the dots in the matrix. Your printout looks "striped."   Replacing the print head costs almost as much as buying a new printer! Some printers sell a replacement print head packaged with the ink cartridges.
