What's Wrong with the Mouse?
Everything works but the mouse.
The computer boots up,
plays the happy chime when it reaches the desktop…but no
mouse. Windows may not give you a message when it cannot detect the
mouse. Sometimes, the mouse stops without a clue.
First, check the
connections on the back of the machine. Nine times out of ten, it’s
connections, connections, connections. OK, it’s plugged in the right
place; now what? Is the mouse dirty? A yucky mouse will act erratic or
“sticky.”
Clean a Two-button
Mouse
Two button
mice have the ball on the bottom. This rubber ball picks up fuzz as it
rolls along the mouse pad. To clean it, turn the retaining collar
counter clockwise. Remove the ball and clean it gently with a little
window cleaner. Let it dry. Then, blow out any dust and debris from the
ball cavity.
Clean the
Trackball
Cleaning a
trackball is simple, too. Remove the Q-ball, and clean
the junk out of the well. Be gentle with the bearings. A light cleaning
should solve the problem.
