Super Computers
The power
of the computer can be harnessed to process at blazing speeds.
However, it still takes a lot of computers to calculate complex
chess moves or render digital images.
Super
computers can be clusters, or farms, of servers. The new computer
generated movies, such as
Toy Story
and
Finding Nemo require hundreds of computers. Each frame is 1/24
of a second of action. On the average it can take 6 hours of
computation to render one frame.
One of the
most famous computers IBM's
Deep Blue can challenge the world's best chess masters. Deep Blue
is capable of looking at an average of 100 million positions per
second; that's approximately 20 billion positions in the three
minutes allowed for the average tournament move.
