More Power

Should you replace the power supply? So, your computer needs a new power supply, but everything else tested OK. Is it worth it to replace the power unit? Yes! The part costs less than $70.00 and you should be up and running again in a few minutes.

The power supply is one of the most important parts of the PC. Without one, you’re dead in the water. An inadequate power supply causes random faults and poor performance.

Today’s PC’s are very hungry for power. The new processors, alone, require 100 Watts when it is operating up to full speed. Now, add one or two drives, a 3D video card, a CD-Rom, a USB printer, scanner, and monitor. All of this adds up to at least 400 Watts.

How big? Many, many cheap PCs come with small, 300 Watt power supplies. If you add a good graphics card, or couple of extra devices, the machine burns out. Look for a power supply with 450 Watts or more.
