Feeling Run Down?

What happens when your battery runs low? Well, the operating system will no longer display the correct time. If the CMOS battery fails while the computer is on, you can still get your work done and gracefully backup your important data. You DO backup, don’t you?

The real problem occurs when you try to reboot the computer. When the CMOS battery fails, the computer loses the entire hardware configuration. It doesn’t even know that it has a hard drive, let alone an operating system. Boo.

The battery companies say you should replace the battery every two years. But as I said earlier, some batteries are soldered to the motherboard and can’t be replaced.

Sometimes the magic works. Sometimes, it doesn’t. Computers! Yea, we love them.
