Voice Over IP
Voice Over
IP means working with the Internet. The phone competes with other
broadband uses, such as listening to music, watching videos, or
playing games online. The
Internet phone is uncannily quiet when no one is talking. Many
people ask, "Are you still there?" The quality of service with VoIP
is still less than dial-up phones. If there is a lot of network
traffic, VoIP users will notice chatter and drop out.
No
single point of failure
Dial-up
phone are connected to phone lines, which are usually available if
the power goes out. The phone company supports their service with
backup generators. At home or
in the office, you can purchase a backup battery, or uninterrupted
power supply to provide 30 minutes to a couple of hours for the
Cable router and the VoIP converter.
Emergency Calls
The 911
emergency system is routed by the nearest location. VoIP is not
identified by a physical address, such as a dial-up phone or cell
phone. VoIP is best when you have another means of calling during an
emergency, such as a cell phone.
Well,
that's enough from the SandBox, where only the latest and greatest
survive.
